Phhsst! Green Day not Punk?!?!

Okay, soooo in this thread we are gonna get all our thoughts out and on this thread about this topic which is.....Green Day not punk?!?! I want everyone to just say what they wanna say about this BECAUSE I will garentee it will make you feel better cause it seems like EVERYWHERE I go people are always bashing Green Day and saying they're not punk and I just want beat the shit out of them LOL But I don't. Instead I shall write this.....:


I hate how everyone thinks wearing chains and black and going around beating the crap out of people is punk.
That's not punk! A punk is about being a unique person and to stand up for what you believe in. That is a punk.
I'll admit that Green Day doesn't sound very punk anymore but I think people are making it such a BIG deal when it isn't.
Labels are stupid.
I believe that there is good music and bad music.
I don't care what type of music it is. I'll listen to it as long as it's good!
And Green Day has amazing music!
I don't care what anyone says.
They're awesome.
Different music means different things to people and I respect that.
I may not like it but I don't go around bashing them and laughing because they like a certian type of music.
Music is an amazing thing!
It changes our beliefs and opinions. It makes us think deeper about things that we've never thought about before. We relate to music in such a strong way that it's unbelievable!
All we have to do is turn on our favorite music when we're sad or mad and it makes us feel better because we know that we arn't the only ones going through this or going through that.
That's how I feel about Green Day.
Especally American Idiot.
I don't care if it's "not punk" I love it!
If everyone actually listens to the whole thing and actually thinks about every single song on there then the people who don't understand will realize that American Idiot isn't really that much of a political album!
It's a rock opera where if you listen to all the songs in order and it forms into a story with a plot and characters.
Millions of Green Day fans relate sooo much to the characters in American Idiot that they would actually cry while they're listening to it.
That album and many other songs litteraly saves lives just because of what they really mean!
And if labels HAVE to stay then I would say that Green Day are a punk band.
I don't think punk is a sound of music at all.
I don't think just because of what Green Day wears that they are not punk.
That's just stupid.
I mean, let's try and think logical here.
A long time ago punk really wasn't a sound of music. It was a small group of people who were more than likely outcasts, who didn't fit in, who were different, and who stuck up for what they believe in.
Punk is a state of mind.
And I believe that Green Day are punk regardless of what they're music sounds like!
They stick up for what they believe in and are not afraid of speaking the truth about the world! And that's why I admire them so much!
That is why most Green Day fans are sooo loyal to them!
That's how much they really love and care about Green Day.
That they don't care if they change the sound of their music. As long as it's good and is meaningful to them.
I'd have to say that I LOVE their old stuff but their new stuff is just as amazing to me!
They opened my eyes to the world around me. They've educated me about the envirnment! I mean I never watched the news until AFTER I started listening to them.
They got me interested in that kind of stuff.
They actually MADE me question about everything I believed in and they changed all my opinions around for the better.
Before I was listening to them do you know what I was listening to???

Hilary Duff to Green Day is such a HUGE difference!
When i first started listening to them it was so foreign to me. I never heard anything like it. And just seconds after I put that first Green Day CD in (which was Nimrod) I was obsessed. I took that album EVERYWHERE I went.
They've changed me so much. I can barely discribe how much they mean to me down in this thread and if I did it would be more than a mile long!
And no, I'm not kidding.
I mean, Ozzy Osbourne even loves them! American Idiot is in his top 5 album list.

And when people say that Green Day sucks just because they're "not punk" or "just sell-outs" are ignorant and uneducated.
They're just saying those things either out of jealousy or maybe their just stupid.
I'm not saying that they can't have their own opinions but to bash Green Day just because of those two things is just not logical at all!

Okay, you asked for this.

Green Day have sold out. I will admit that. They have sold out stadium after stadium internationally. They are one of the biggest bands in the world and probably one of the top biggest bands of our generation.

Do I think Green Day is punk? Yes. They aren't as punk as they used to be, of course. They used to be young immature boys, which people don't understand. People don't understand that they are human and they have to grow up some point in their lives. People don't understand that they didn't want to be a small garage band for the rest of their lives. They wanted to be GREEN DAY not some decent band from a small town that will play in your basement Friday night.

I personally love Green Day. I LOVE GREEN DAY and i'm so proud to say that. People can go ahead and listen to their songs about sex and fancy cars and blowing their money away when you could listen to a band about REALITY. NOT REALITY TELEVISION, R-E-A-L-I-T-Y.

And I hate people who say they are queer cause they wear eyeliner. That's my biggest pet peeve in the entire world. Look at KISS. People love KISS and they wear tons more makeup then Green Day. People just say "Well, KISS has good music." Green Day's music is good too!

People just don't like punk/rock/alternative music anymore. Of course, there are a lot of people that do but their are way more people that would rather listen to Chris Brown than Green Day just because the song is catchy.

People just don't understand that Green Day are in their mid 30's, are in relationships and have children, and they want to set a good example. They don't want their kids to come to a show and see a set like the did in 1994.

I'm not implying that Green Day are better now than they were in the Dookie-Shenanigans era, even though I do like the American Idiot era more, it's just that they aren't in their 20's anymore.

Green Day have sold out and I think it's a good thing because they have the potential to play in front of thousands and thousands of people and they can hold through and that's really something to admire about a band.

I hate all of the people who have ever said "Green Day's sold out" or "Green Day isn't punk." They must have a wrong definition of punk. Like Chelsea said, punk is being unique and different, not wearing eyeliner and black clothing. It's just being YOU. And Green Day are being themselves to the full extent. People could think that the aren't being punk because they are fake because they did make a big jump from Dookie to Insomniac To Nimrod and then a few years later, American Idiot. But everyone of their records sounds different than the last. Billie Joe has even said that everytime they make a new record, it's like a rebirth. And I think thats great.

As long as Green Day is putting out important, meaningful rock and roll music, i'm going to be listening to them for as long as I live and that's a promise to everyone and myself. I'm not promising that because I want to see if I can do it, it's because I know I can and I know I will.

and you know, that's the thing that people don't get!! Not JUST American Idiot sounds different form all the rest of the albums! EVERY album sounds different!! And Green Day has always been political in a way! They've ALWAYS had very strong opinions about EVERYTHING! And I think that's one of the BIGGEST reasons why I love Green DAy SO MUCH. GAHH!!

One reason why many Green Day fans say that they're gonna love them for the rest of their lives is because Green Day have played such an emotional part in every fan's life! Billie, Mike, and Tre's personality makes people want to smile! The fact that they don't give a shit what other people think or say about them! The fact that they don't give a shit wheather their album gets played on the radio or wins a million awards! The fact that they've done all of this for the music! Not the money, not the fame, but the music!

The fame and fortune just happens to go with it. If it wern't for Green Day i wouldn't have a sense of being alive, I wouldn't be alive! And no, I'm not talking about "physically" I'm talking about "mentally". I would STILL care what people had to say about me! I'd STILL cry for HOURS about something someone said. The tiniest thing that makes such a HUGE impact! I can still remember the names of everyone who has made fun of me! Everyone. But you know what, i don't care anymore! Green Day has taught me that!

Teens are SO cruel. Most of them are immature but most of them in the future gets more responsible and mature because they will realize sooner or later that when they made fun of someone it was wrong and hopefully they'll teach there kids not to be mean to others. It doesn't matter! It doesn';t matter to me wheather people think I'm "fat" or "ugly" or a "freak". It just makes me want to go to Green Day more, It just makes me wanna tell my kids to be nice to others, and it makes me wanna tell my kids about Green Day and maybe even give them my Green Day cds. MAYBE....haha

What I don't understand is how someone could hate Green Day. How could someone just look at someone else and say, "You're such a freak!" or "Go die you stupid Emo. Go cut yourself!" It's just so easy to hate each other and to hate something. It's harder to be nice, to love someone. Loving someone or something takes time, it takes patience, and understanding. To love someone you have to go out of your way to help them and many people just don't want to do that! It's just so easy to hate. All you have to do is sit there and start running your mouth about how "gay" or "stupid" someone else is! And that's what people who hate Green Day do!

They just don't understand! To hate something or to be afriad of something you...you just have to be not understanding about the thing or that person. People who hate Green Day just don't understand. They won't give them the time of day, because what they believe is what they think is right. It's what they think everyone else should think. If they think Green Day is Emo they're are GOING to go to one of their friends, tell them that they're some Emo band and explain way and so their friend starts to hate them to even though they don't know why! Their minds are corrupted into thinking that way because it's what their friends think.

It's really sad because they should have their own say of what they believe in. Every Green Day fan has that. The need to be different, the need to stand out, they're not afriad to believe in what they believe in and they have their own say in things.

People NEED to understand that music is not all about the catchy beats, or what's popular. They need to stop following others and start liking what they want to like and to not be afraid of that and to not care wheater it's popular or not. If you asked any Green Day hater in the world exactly why they hate them i bet more than half would just say, "Well, because they're Emo!!!" or "Because they're gay!" When the people who DO like Green Day could EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. Exactly why they like them and it would be paragraphs even pages long about why they like them! The people that hate them can't explain why they do because THEY don't even know. They don't know why they hate them because it's not what they believe in, it's what their friends believe in. They just want to follow them.

Although many people hate Green Day for who knows what reason i bet A LOT more people love them to death. You're either gonna love something to death or hate something just as much.

Plus, no one cares about the quality of the music, i bet the people who now listen to 50 cent and all of those idiots dont really know the meanin of the song, they just listen to it because its "catchy" and its "hip" !

You know, when i first started listening to Green Day, i used to listen to mostly HIlary Duff, and once, when i used to play neopets, i went to someone's account and heard the song American Idiot, and the sound of the song was really something different to me. After that day, i started listening to other Green Day songs, and downloading some too.

After that, i started listening to other bands which i had no idea about! Green Day has inspired me to be me, and not go with all those trends that change from time to time! Green Day has made me proud of who i am as an individual, and not to care about what people call me. Before i used to cry about people who hated me and why they dont like me, but now, i dont care, and I love them for that.

Many of my classmates didn't use to like Green Day because of the eyeliner, and because they used to think Rock music is noise. But when they listened to some of the songs, they completely changed their mind, and some even know the song American Idiot by heart.

I bet all of the Green Day haters never listened to one song by Green Day, because they never have a good reason why they hate them. They are all like "They're gay because they put eyeliner" or "Eww they are so old!".

What they dont realize is that age doesnt matter as long as you like the music. Some people think that "old people"'s music sucks, and you know why? Because whenever you see a band full of mature adults, they always talk about REAL things, and REAL stuff that happens in life, not the shit that all those rappers talk about, like how many cars they have, or how "bling" they are, or how many girlfriends they have!

So i owe alot to Green Day, because they changed the way i look at the world, and they made me not afraid to say whatever i want!
