I sent this poem in for INO's poem challenge. I had to base the poem on this photo.

A Child's Birthday Party

A blond in pink
A symbol of pure innocence
Food and deliciousness surrounding her
On the day she turns a year older

A brunette in purple
Looking confused and worried
Wonders of taste all around her
But her mind is somewhere else

Children gathered for a celebration
Brought together by an invitation

Their young lives are filled with happiness
They know of nothing else

And I can't help but freight
For their young lives and the horror they may have met

As for now, they are just children having fun
There is no mischief their innocence could of done.

I'm not sure about this one.

Mainstream

so many sad and somber songs
sang by singers that didn't write the words
voice overs and lip syncers
the light of reality and perfection is growing dim.

so many slip ups and over dramatics
done by the messy or the drama queens
institutions and medications
are what all these celebrities are talking about.

television isn't worth my time anymore
and the mainstream music is such a bore
ignorance and chat speak are defined as 'cool'
and so is acting like a dick in school
i'm going to loose my mind and nerve
if these lime light obsessers don't get what they deserve.

so many prescribed pills that the stoners chew
along with all of the other shit that they do
sky highers and pothead liars
is what all the 'bad' teenagers are dreaming about

so many kids that get whatever they ask for
and no matter what they get, they still want more
just bitches and it itches
itches me to know that they will always be spoiled rotten

television isn't worth my time anymore
and the mainstream music is such a bore
ignorance and chat speak are defined as 'cool'
and so is getting poor grades and acting like a dick in school
i'm going to loose my mind and nerve
if these lime light obsessers don't get what they deserve.

voice overs and lip syncers
institutions and medications
sky highers and pothead liars
just bitches and it itches
itches me to know that I can't remedy their ways.

so much ignorance and stupidity
but the beautiful people overpower the liabilities
and i know there are a handful of heroes out there
and i pray that they will be recognized.

television isn't worth my time anymore
and the mainstream music is such a bore
ignorance and chat speak are defined as 'cool'
and so is acting like a dick in school
i'm going to loose my mind and nerve
if these lime light obsessers don't get what they deserve.

You can vote for "A Child's Birthday Party" at INO now.

Go to www.imnotokay.net/board
Go into the Poetry board
Go to POETRY CHALLENGE ENTRIES
My poem is the second one.
PM left hand luke. You can make the topic of the message something like, "poem vote" or something. Just type the number 2.

There are only 4 poems to vote for. I like the other ones written, too.

I came in 3rd out of 4th.
I got a little banner thingy I put in my profile, too xD

This weeks promt is a little hard, but I like this poem more than the first one.

the promt;

"Flat on my back, I stared straight up at the magnificent firmament, glorying in the time I was making, in how far I had come from sad Bear Mountain after all, and tingling with kicks at the thought of what lay ahead of me in Denver - whatever, whatever it would be. And Mississippi Gene began to sing a song. He sang it in a melodious, quiet voice, with a river accent, and it was simple, just 'I got a purty little girl, she's sweet six-teen, she's the purti-est thing you ever seen,' repeating it with other lines thrown in, all concerning how far he'd been and how he wished he could go back to her but he done lost her.
I said, 'Gene, that's the prettiest song.'
'It's the sweetest I know,' he said with a smile.
'I hope you get where you're going, and be happy when you do'
'I always make out and move along, one way or the other.'"

--

Maybe a cowboy,
Or a lost, lost loner,
Just a man who carries a tune.

And he sings that song,
To pass the time,
So the days fly by so soon.

The song for a lover?
Perhaps a sister,
A girl with a beauty of bloom.

Mountains and hills,
Stretching afar,
And as we move closer, they seem to loom.

He will walk away,
And go to his girl,
One of these days, I assume.

And on this day, I'll watch him leave,
Just moving along,
As he sings that simple song.
