The last few chords of Stuck With Me rang out. Billie belted out “Well, I know I’m not alright,” and I sang with him, my voice almost drowning his out. Then it was over. This had been the best night of my whole sorry life.

Back to Hell tomorrow. Sighing, I got into my dad’s car and he drove me back to my uncle’s flat.

We said Goodbye at the door and I hurried inside before another argument began. My uncle and my dad don’t get on.

My cousin, Charlotte, was sitting on her bed in our shared bedroom, waiting for me. Groaning, I contemplated running to the bathroom and locking the door, but then I’d have to face her later, when she might be in a worse mood.

I turned to face her. She sneered, knowing I’d given in again.

“How was your pathetic concert, emo?” she taunted. I ignored her. She wasn’t worth it. I just wish I could still be at the concert.

I put my headphones in and started Minority. Charlotte pulled the player from my hands and dropped it to the floor, before stamping on it.

I gasped, tears coming to my eyes. I wiped them away, hating my weakness.

Laughing, she kicked the player again and ran down the stairs.

I picked the player up and stared at the broken pieces of Warning. All my fault. I broke down and cried as I threw the halves away. No point keeping it now.

School the next day was worse. A lot worse. Without the thoughts and memories of last night’s gig, I know I wouldn’t have survived. It started with the usual shove to the floor and the cry of “Green Day scum out.”

I faced Sam and spat in his face, giving it my all. Someone jumped on me from behind and I screamed, covering my face with my arms. Strong hands pulled them away and I tensed, expecting a slap. It came a few seconds later. It hurt like never before. I tried blinking my tears back, but they fell away, slipping hotly down my face. Suddenly, I couldn’t take it any more. Turning, I raced for the gates. I got through and ran into town.

I planned to stay there for the rest of the day, but I was caught by a friend of my uncle’s and he took me back to the flat. My uncle went mental. He began shouting and throwing stuff. I sat down and drifted away, back to last night, while I waited this out.

Eventually, he stopped. Without saying a word, I stood and headed upstairs to pack. I threw my Green Day CDs, a photo of me, my mum and my dad and the book I was reading into a bag. I shoved my phone and MP3 Player into a pocket and left the room. Charlotte could have it back.

On the way out, I picked up my lyrics notebook. Everything I owned was on me now. I looked back once more after leaving the tower block. Muttering a goodbye, I walked away forever.

I walked back to town and booked into a hotel for the night. I’d live for now and see what tomorrow would bring.

The next day, I decided I couldn’t risk being taken back to the flat again, so I headed off to school. Brett, Sam and Jill waited for me. Jill spat in my face and Brett stamped on my foot., my punishment for yesterday. Sam just stood and watched.

Lessons one and two passed with almost no bother, but I did hear people whispering stuff. At break, I escaped into the food court and sat in a corner, hoping no one would see me.

One boy sat down at my table while I was eating. I carried on staring at the table, too afraid to look up. After a long silence, he spoke.

“St Jimmy at your service.”

SAINT Jimmy? I glanced up, stunned, and saw he was wearing a Green Day t shirt. Someone else had seen him as well. Brett. God damn it. Now he was in trouble. Brett hated Green Day and he was the toughest kid in school. Brett walked towards, shouting as he did.

“Hey, Green Day scum, get the fuck outta our school. You n your kind aint wanted here.”

I groaned and tried to move away, not wanting to be dragged into this. Jimmy stared at Brett in amazement. Jill blocked my escape route. We were trapped with no way out. Jimmy punched Brett in the face when he launched himself at me. Brett was down. The other kids crowded around him, shocked, and Jimmy pulled me away.

We got talking about Green Day. It turned out that we liked the same song the best. Stuck With Me. He’d been bullied in his last school too. He’d learnt to be tough with them.

We spent so long there that we missed the bell for the next class so we chose to skip it.

“Would you like to see them in concert again ? I have a spare ticket.”

Last night ran through my head again. I was about to say yes when a seed of doubt crept through my mind. Why was he asking me?

“Why are you asking me?” I asked him. He paused before answering. I watched him, hoping he’d be truthful. He turned to me after a few minutes.

“I like you. I’d love to take you to see them after what just happened in there and there is no other Green Day fan that I know of who I can take right now, you know?”

“Erm, ok, when is it?”

“Tomorrow. Will that be ok with your folks?”

I studied him and then nodded.

“Yes please.”

“Meet me at my house tomorrow, ok?”

*******

I got up off my bed and stood next to my uncle’s bed, waiting for him to wake up. It was almost time to go. He’d been sleeping most of the day. He didn’t wake. I tried shaking him but he just pushed me away and I fell over. Charlotte began sniggering from the doorway. It looked like I wouldn’t be going after all. I phoned Jimmy to give him the bad news.

“No probs, I’ll give you a lift in my truck. Be ready in about 10 minutes.”

I accepted his offer and hurriedly got dressed. Ten minutes later exactly a bus pulled up outside the flat. Charlotte rushed out when she saw Jimmy. He looked great.

Then someone else got out behind him. I stood in the doorway, mouth open. Oh My God I thought.

I almost rubbed my eyes, but that seemed so childish. Billie Joe Armstrong had just stepped out of the bus. Mike jumped down the steps after him.

Tre shouted from behind Mike, “Anyone home?”

Seeing me waiting, Jimmy walked over, followed by Tre. Mike and Billie, sensing my utter amazement, kept their distance.

“We’re here to escort you to the concert, Ma’am,” Tre said with a bow. He waved towards the bus while Charlotte watched, open mouthed. I climbed the steps, feeling a little odd. I mean, this was Green Day.

As soon as I was in, we zoomed off to the concert. Tre struck up a conversation with me. I was amazed at easy it was to talk to him. He was just so ….. genuine. I mean, you hear all those about how fame goes to people’s heads but none of Green Day were even the slightest bit stuck up.

We reached the concert in record time, dodging in and out of traffic. People were staring out their car windows at me. It just felt so unreal.

Jimmy and me took our seats while the band set up their equipment. Leaning over, Jimmy whispered that he’d told Billie about yesterday.

Good update!

I'd just give a little piece of contructive criticism. I saw you wrote 'ur' instead of 'your.' I don't know if you meant to or not, but it's better your fully write out your words in a story. It's easier to read and it looks more professional. :]

All in all, I think this is good! :]
